Final Day Abroad

Greetings everyone! It's with a sad heart that I write you as we prepare to depart from our wonderful expedition abroad. Today we took a day trip to the beautiful city of Toledo where we visited the city's Cathedral, the Monastery of San Juan de Los Reyes, and the Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca. We then headed back to Madrid where we had a fantastic final night consisting of dinner at the Mercado San Miguel, attended a traditional Flamenco dance and topped-off the evening with  a dessert of churros con chocolate. We are now getting ready to head to the airport. We should arrive back in the Atlanta terminal around 4:30pm.

Further Spanish Happenings

Buenos Noches! Today was another great series of adventures in Spain. We woke up this morning to a wonderful spread of fresh fruits and cold cuts. We then took a day trip to El Escorial where we visited La Basilica de San Lorenzo and the Valley of the Fallen (another basilica commissioned by Franco to honor the soldiers who died in the Spanish Civil War and the resting place of Franco himself). We then returned to Madrid for a brief stint around the town, then took the Metro to our Spanish cooking lessons where students first prepared and then dined on tortillas Espanol, pan de tomate, pollo y mariscos paella and crema catalana. Sadly tomorrow is our last day abroad, but it's another very busy one. Look for more updates soon.

Versailles and Our Trip to Spain

Hola desde Espana! Yesterday we took a trip to see the magnificent Palace of Versailles. Students were then able to participate in a role-play of the events of the French Revolution (hilarity ensued). Our final destination in France was a tour of the Le Marais (one of the most wealthy districts of Paris). We then boarded our overnight train for Spain and arrived early this morning in Madrid where we then visited the Prado and Reina Sofia museums. Look forward to more updates tomorrow as wen are again out and about in Spain!

More Parisian Adventures

Bonjour! All continues to go well in Paris. This morning we visited the Sacre Couer Basillica on Mont Merta (the highest physical elevation in Paris). We then broke off into small groups. Mr. Green took some students back to the Louvre and to the oldest art store in Paris. Mr. Harness, Mrs. Arnette and Ms. Perez took the kids shopping on the Rue de Rivoli. Finally Mrs. Berger and I took a few students on a culinary tour of Paris sampling escargot, bone marrow, foie gras and pork cheek! We finished the night with a great collective Moraccan meal and a climb to the top of the Pompidoe Museum of Modern Art. Needless to say everyone is exhausted as we just returned to the hotel to pack our bags for Versailles tomorrow! More to come soon.
